| Education in Hungary In Hungary education is compulsory for all children between the ages of 6 and 18. The Hungarian educational system is of a high standard, but as teaching is in Hungarian most expatriate children attend international schools. There is a well developed Hungarian tertiary education system with around 30 universities across the country, which attract many foreign students. Budapest has a number of international schools, which offer programmes of study leading to the International Baccalaureate, the British GCSEs and A levels and other national qualifications. These include the American International School, the British International School, the German International School, the French International School, Greater Grace International School, and Britannica International School. Most of the international schools are located in Buda, and some are well out in the suburbs, a long distance from the city centre.
